Why have a wedding when you could have a "weeding"? Yes, a weeding. Just when we think we have seen it all, the world has surprised us with another wedding curve ball. Couples in Washington and Colorado have successfully created a new wedding trend - the integration of marijuana into their wedding ceremonies and receptions. Why only Washington and Colorado? Because these are the only two states in America where the recreational use of marijuana is legal, so naturally the states' couples would want to use it on their wedding days. One particular couple chose to make Mary Jane a prominent part of their special day because their first date consisted of smoking a joint together in Los Angeles. Lauren Meisels and Bradley Melshenker kicked off their wedding weekend by leaving gift bags in their guests' hotel rooms composed of one pre-rolled joint, one lighter, and a stick of lip balm infused with cannabis. In addition, everything from the bride's bouquet to the center pieces contained marijuana buds and leaves (even the dogs sported the popular plant!). The unconventional-ness didn't stop there - once guests found their tables with the aid of their own personalized baby marijuana plants, devices similar to e-cigarettes that contained hash oil rather than nicotine began to be passed around. One guest, Ellen Epstein, reflected on the experience saying, "It didn't feel weird or bizarre. It kind of becomes a new cocktail." So what makes these couples want to trade in tradition for THC? In their opinion, the effect of marijuana on people is no worse than alcohol and may even be less toxic. In fact, numerous weed enthusiasts consider alcohol to be worse than marijuana because it could cause fights to break out between families while weed generally calms everyone down and brings peace between separate groups of people - ideal for a wedding. Dale Dyke, the owner of a bed-and-breakfast in Denver that had recently hosted a weeding stated, "Marijuana intoxication is full of positive emotion. People feel love and connection." An added advantage to weedings is that they generate less waste. Instead of throwing out the bouquets and boutonnieres at the end of the night, brides and grooms have chosen to keep them and bring them back out to smoke them on their wedding anniversary. So which would you prefer: a chocolate high or just plain high? Take your pick.
