Literary Tale

We have been fortunate in our profession to be introduced to many cultures and religions, it's exciting for us to see the unique rituals Brides and Grooms incorporate into their ceremonies and receptions.  Seeing a couple, jump the broom, stand under a Chuppah or break plates on the dance floor reminds us of our true melting pot of a country.  

We were beyond ecstatic when Caroline and Brian asked us to help them in the planning of their Quaker Wedding this past October.  After speaking with Caroline about her wedding I was intrigued to learn more about a Quaker ceremony.   Caroline and Brian's wedding was a traditional wedding in a Friends meeting.  Their guests gathered for a silent worship at The Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia. Caroline and Brian along with their immediate families sat at the front of the meeting house facing their guests.  Out of the silence Caroline and Brian stood and exchanged their "promises" and signed their Quaker wedding certificate.  At that time all those present were invited to give ministry with the gathered meeting as they felt led.  This was my most favorite part of the meeting.  I laughed, and even cried as friends and family stood before Caroline and Brian, told stories, shared memories and wished them a happy life.  I was blown away by the out pouring of love and support for these two amazing people.   

I have to say her dress was my favorite-the length, the lace, the tulle, and it fit her to a T.

Unlike a traditional wedding where guests are asked to sign a guest book, guests of a Quaker wedding are asked to sign the Quaker wedding certificate as witnesses and the couple then hangs it in their home as a constant reminder of the declarations they made, and of the people with whom they shared that moment of their lives.

Caroline and Brian are both avid readers and their collection of books is incredible.  Each table was adorned with books, old lanterns, antique vases and a table number paying homage to the books on each table. Meghan designed each table and added roses that matched the fall colors of Caroline's bouquet.

The Bolingbroke Mansion is a great space for an intimate wedding.  The grand fireplaces were filled with books and photographs, flowers and candles.  It made for a romantic space, unique to Caroline and Brian.

We loved making these beautiful bouquets for Caroline and her best friend-they were perfect for this fall occasion.

We were honored to be a part of such a unique wedding.  Learning different religions and cultures is one of the many amazing parts of our job!  We wish Caroline and Brian a happily ever after.
