If you want some guidance on creating the hearts, the blog LiveCraftEat offers instructions for sewing your own. You can vary the size, shape, and color to match your personal wedding theme.

Succulents
Succulents give the same natural feel as flowers, but can be cheaper and less fussy. Buzzfeed offers easy-to-follow instructions on putting these boutonnieres together. Customize your own with different succulent plants, as well as different fabrics and twines. The blog says they should stay fresh for up to a week if they're kept in the fridge.

Legos
Lego boutonnieres can show off quirky personalities while still looking sophisticated. The boutonniere shown above is from a wedding photographed by The Nickersons, and you can see more lego boutonnieres from the wedding on their site. Lego offers many different types of figurines, like Star Wars characters, super heroes, and pirates. You can add them right to a succulent boutonniere like the one from Buzzfeed!

Balloons
An unexpected and fun idea is to send your guest a balloon save the date. Notonthehighstreet offers the balloons pictured above, which come in 22 colors and include your names and wedding date. It's tied to a backing card which reads, "Please Inflate & Save the Date", and also has a sticker with the date. If you're looking for a less pricey option, David's Bridal also offers customizable balloon save the dates. 

Calendar
Sending save the dates that include the calendar month will help your guests visually see when your wedding is. Wedding Chicks has free, customizable 2016 monthly calendars that you can print out right at home. Change the font colors, border colors, and add your own photo. Something Turquoise also has step-by-step instructions and print outs for making your own calendar save the dates. 

Stamps
Put your own stamp on your save the dates, literally! Amsterdam & Beyond blogged about creating save the dates using personalized stamps from Stamp Couture. Edit your calendar stamp to include the month and year of your wedding, as well as your names and then venue location. The calendar stamp also comes with a small heart stamp to mark the date. You could also order more tiny heart stamps to send to your guests so they can stamp their own personal calendars.
